Set texts for Cambridge English: First until December 2013:
- William Makepeace Thackeray: Vanity Fair (Black Cat or any edition)
- Mary Stewart: This Rough Magic (OUP)
- Set texts for 2014 are:
- LP Hartley: The Go-Between (Penguin Readers)
- Sebastian Junger: The Perfect Storm (Macmillan Readers)

One or both of the following texts may be read as preparation for the two optional set text tasks:
William Golding: Lord of the Flies
Teachers may choose to prepare candidates for questions on this set text by studying a film version as well as, or instead of, the novel.
P D James: The Lighthouse
There is currently no film version of this book.
Candidates should not attempt the optional set text question in Part 2 unless they have the necessary vocabulary and understanding of the text to answer the task set. Teachers are best placed to judge which, if any, of the set texts and/or film versions may be appropriate and stimulating for a given teaching situation.

Some recommendations Reading takes time and hard work You must look up the words you don t know and prepare summaries of the chapters of books. This will ease out your work for the final exam.
Whenever possible , we will watch parts of the movies of these best sellers in our monthly video classes lasting 1 hour or 1.30 hs . Unless otherwise stated, VIDEO CLASSES are held on one Friday of each month from 6.30 to 8 pm
